How YachtShare works

YachtShare gives you a luxury yacht at Westhaven Marina for 21 or 35 days a year, for one fixed monthly fee. We own and maintain the boat. You book it online and go sailing.

Four steps to the water

Choose a yacht

Pick from our fleet of yachts and catamarans from 32 to 50 ft, all berthed at Westhaven in downtown Auckland. See the fleet.

Choose a plan

21 days a year (10 weekdays, 8 weekend days, 3 flexible extra days) or 35 days (18 weekdays, 10 weekend days, 7 flexible extra days). See prices.

Sea trial

A 3 to 4 hour sea trial with a qualified trainer shows you the yacht's systems and confirms you're ready to skipper. No formal qualifications are needed.

Book and sail

Book online 24/7, from one day up to 14 days at a time, even on the morning you want to go. Step on board and cast off.

The details

How booking works

Bookings are first in, first served, with rules that give every member a fair share. You can hold two forward bookings plus a Christmas booking, so holidays are easy to plan.

Flexible extra days

Your flexible extra days can be used as weekdays or weekend days, once you've used all of either.

Short notice bookings

If no other member has booked the yacht, you can book it at short notice, even on the morning you want to go. It uses one of your days, so you can sail when the weather's right.

Freebie days

If a yacht isn't booked for the day, you can ask our management team after midday to use it free of charge. Freebie days are unlimited, subject to management approval.

Where you can go

The whole Hauraki Gulf and beyond, usually from Whitianga to the Bay of Islands, within each yacht's survey limits.

Safety

YachtShare is certified by Maritime NZ under the Maritime Operator Safety System (MOSS). Accredited marine surveyors inspect our yachts regularly.

Paying

Pay monthly by direct debit, or pay the year upfront for a small discount. Two families can share one membership; anyone who skippers must be approved by YachtShare.

Commitment

Memberships run for 12 months. At the end you can renew or leave. There's no boat or share to sell.

Need more experience?

Our sister company Yacht Training runs courses from beginner crew to experienced skipper, and our trainers are available for top-up lessons by the hour.

After your trip

Leave the yacht as you found it: rinse down the deck, wash the dishes, take your rubbish, stow the gear and top up the diesel.

Ready to see a yacht?
